CURRENT PROJECTS
Apollo (Movement I: Theia) —
Marc Mellits
Mallet Ensemble Arrangement
This collaboration with composer Marc Mellits grew out of a shared enthusiasm for expanding the chamber repertoire for mallet instruments. Originally written as part of Apollo for Wind Quintet, Movement I (Theia) was re‑imagined as a custom mallet ensemble arrangement, created specifically for my future recital performance.
Marc worked closely with me throughout the process to adapt the movement into a mallet setting, thoughtfully re‑scoring the material to suit the color, resonance, and expressive capabilities of keyboard percussion. The final result preserves the rhythmic drive and character of the original work while allowing the mallet voices to speak naturally and idiomatically.
The arrangement was conceived with performance practicality in mind, utilizing a flexible instrumentation that can be realized with two marimbas and two vibraphones, while still maintaining the depth and clarity of a larger ensemble texture. This project reflects Marc’s passion for writing for mallet instruments—something he has described as “such a joy”—and his openness to collaborative, performer‑driven projects.
